From http://www.djfrenic.com
Sam Fergusson known to many as Frenic is a fast emerging UK talent garnering an international reputation for producing music which shows his inspiration from many forms of dance and hip hop whilst hinting at deeper musical influence. Frenic first started making beats for hip hop MC’s after becoming inspired by listening to rap heavyweights Wu-Tang Clan, DJ Premier, and Pete Rock. Having bought a pair of turntables began his quest into understanding scratching and turntableism which then lead him to forming a live act called Lost Project. Popular on the U.K hip hop scene, they played many lives sets to great response, even supporting hip hop royalty like The Pharcyde, The Beatnuts, Task Force and Afrika Bambaataa.

In the late 90s Frenic was attracted to the growing Drum n Bass scene and before long he and DJ Dis started playing a DnB raves djing for the famous “One Nation” young dj agency. The pair made it all the way to the Movement Vestax DJ comp finishing, as runners up to the now well known JFB. Frenic also moved to Bristol in search of broadening his musical horizons and meet more like minded people.

Now 16 years on, he has forged a reputation as one of the best party DJs to come out of the U.K, often a regular on the UK festival circuit, and well as his famous annual sets at the F1 Grand Prix and Moto G.P.

His Sets are defined by a deep a eclectic selection of beats, breaks and bass, uniquely blended and fused utilising his turntableist skills he acquired through years of Djing within the UK Hip Hop scene.

In the last few years Frenic has focused on his own music production creating a selection of acclaimed E.Ps. Starting with “The Future Will Be Better Tomorrow” Frenic brought soul, funk and hip hop to the table and the hit single “Alright”. “SoulBass” was Frenics next release bringing his dance music influences to the forefront of his production, incorporating big bass sounds and synths, but still with a nucleus of deep musicality.

The Latest offering, “Lessons From the Past” featuring tracks “New World”, and “Get out of Dodge” Showcase a darker, more cinematic style that has brought widespread interest and international recognition.

With 2012’s diary already filling up and new sounds planned for release, Frenic’s unique musical style and audio soundscape is in line to set the world ablaze far beyond the Bristish shores he hails from.

From http://www.mrconfuse.com
On ‘Do You Realize’ Mr. Confuse picks up on the distinctive, organic and powerful sound he introduced on ‘Feel The Fire’ and takes it a step further. ‘Do You Realize’ tells a story from the beginning to the end: ‘We Gonna Bring The Funk To You’ with featured singer and main vocalist Dan Salem allows no second thoughts as a perfect opener and leads into ‘Catch Me’, the first single release. In a total of 13 tracks and with fullon party tunes like ‘Never Let The Rhythm Go’ and ‘Let’s Get The Feeling’ the album keeps a steady pace. The second single releases ‘Too Hot’ and the conscious and soulful ‘Why Can’t You See Me’ carries ‘Do You Realize’ to the perfect ending with the moving soul ballad ‘Cool Smooth Waters’ introducing the mighty soul voice of Mrs Elaine Thomas.

It would not be a true Mr. Confuse album if it would not pay tribute to a musical pioneer. With his versions of ‘Boogie Down (Bronx)’ (with the voice of well know German Reggae artist Benjie) and ‘Man Made’ (featuring Dan Salem) Mr. Confuse pays tribute to Man Parrish as one of the innovators who translated Funk and Boogie into the HipHop-Era of early Electro and Freestyle. ‘Do You Realize’ comes as an apt title then.
Accompanying the album there will be a colourful bunch of remixes released in various formats. Remixes by well known producers such as Smoove, Dr. Rubberfunk, Lack Of Afro, Daytoner, The Uptown Felaz, Tom Eno, Przasnik and Funkmaster Ozone amongst many others show Mr. Confuse’s respect for the remix culture, something which was always a major part in the career of the producer from Hannover/Germany who started DJing in 1999 and is producing and composing his own music since 2004. As a member of the Breakout crew in 2005 Mr. Confuse came up with the idea of reworking the 80s classic ‘Planet Rock’ by Afrika Bambaataa and transforming it into a heavy funk tune. Through the years Mr. Confuse released his music and remixes with many international labels (Good Groove, Dominance, Shiftin’ Gears and many more) and recorded a collection of different MixCDs.

In September 2008 his first solo album ‘Feel The Fire’ was released on DLP, CD and digital download. Mr. Confuse’s live band ‘Mr. Confuse & The Confusers’ was called to existence with a heavy horn section of seven players and true Hammond C3 sound also that year. Appearing as 14 musicians strong collective it is an impressive breaks big band. On ‘Feel The Fire’ are cover versions of Debbie Deb’s Freestyle-Electro-Classics ‘Lookout Weekend’ and ‘When I Hear Music’ in a heavy seventies Funk style. The 12inch version of ‘Lookout Weekend’ sold out quickly, but even three years after its original release the track is still a steady download seller. 2009 saw two more 12 inches following the album with the ‘Do It Right Now’ and the ‘Imóvel’ EPs. Mr. Confuse was also invited to feature on the first release on the 7inch label ‘Freesoul45
Records’ with two massive HipHop instrumental tunes that year. 2009 continued with ‘Feel The Fire – The Remixes’ which is available digitally and includes all remixes of the three 12inch vinyl plus never released before versions.

With ‘Do You Realize” Mr. Confuse is not only expanding his trademark sound but the album also introduces him as a musical director with an open ear for the bigger picture. With up to 23 international musicians he created incredible sounding big arrangements you would rather expect from the good times of big studios from the 60s and 70s. Here is a producer who not only reveals a deep understanding of the rhythms ranging from Afro to Soul and from classic R&B to HipHop, but who also has a vision of translating history into the future. ‘Do You Realize’? Indeed we do!

The Trif fit exactly into the scheme because, since the experimental jazz of the trio is not only special but also done particularly well. Here is a little spark, since Piese blues and rock to a shock - everything zeitgenässischen based Jazzes and an outstanding instrument mastery. Achim schif, Marvin Blamberg and Johannes Fog understand not only the elaboration of songs, but also the jamming and improvising, and exactly in the path created, the present Parliament. From http://monkeyboxing.com
Japan’s hard-gigging Jaribu Afrobeat Arkestra (not to be confused with Leeds, UK-based Ariya Afrobeat Arkestra) have got a new album out and it’s called Mediacracy. It’s a slightly unfortunate name because with a Yank accent that could end up sounding like ‘mediocrity’ rather than a neologism presumably intended to be a comment on our media-obsessed culture. And that’s unfortunate because those in the know (and among them I include funk connoisseur Tobias Kirmayer of Tramp Records on whose label this is being released) rate JAA’s second LP of eleven tracks rather highly. Check them in action on the video to the title track (below) as the band all seemed to be having a whale of a time – particularly the young lady and her maracas at the front. Yes I did just say that. And you have to agree, it’s not often you get news of an epic double-Afrobeat LP and a lame double entendre in the same post. Don’t worry – it’ll all make sense when you see the forthcoming movie tie-in Carry On Fela.

From http://www.hhv.de
… and then suddenly there was Joe Kickass. Seemingly out of the blue but with careful planning he dropped his well received ‘Let Me Introduce EP’ earlier this year on Project: Mooncircle.

His track with Morlockk Dilemma called ‘Real Emcee’s’ of the ‘Zeitgeist EP’ featuring a.o. Lewis Parker, Obba Supa and John Robinson added some more heads to his rapidly expanding fan base.

Now, Joe is back to bring you his first full length album entitled ‘Mind Joe’. It’s a diverse soul, jazz and oldskool infused ride, laced with witty and gritty vocals and wrapped in a sick
cover design sporting Joe’s own illustrations. Besides getting Portformat, Arts The Beatdoctor of The Q4 and of course Killing Skills on board, Joe again composed the majority of the beats himself proving himself as versatile as some kind of walking computer car that has yet to be invented.

This 12 track album selection brings your beloved hiphop back to life with it’s raw but musically underpinned sound and lets you dive in Joe’s mind as well as making you mind Joe for a long time
to come.

By Tehanor    From http://www.dmute.net
Ben Lukas Boysen l'a bien compris.

Hecq a radicalement changé.

From http://www.nizetch.fr

“Ms. LaVette now rivals Aretha Franklin as her generation’s most vital soul singer. She uses every scrape, shout and break in her raspy voice, with a predator’s sense of timing, to seize the drama of a song.” - New York Times

Bettye LaVette celebrates her 50th anniversary in the music business (note: can someone check this - there must be some mistake!) with the release of her new album, "Thankful N' Thoughtful", on ANTI- Records - as well as the publication of her long-time-coming book, variously described as 'engrosing', 'riviting', 'hair-raising' and only suitable for over 18s - the tell-it-like-it-is autobiography: "A Woman Like Me", co-written with David Ritz, the highly-regarded author of books on R&B legends such as Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye.

Somewhere between the melodic folk-inflected charm of Italian 60’s songwriters and the cabaret swoon of French chansonniers, Roma Amor’s new album is instinctively romantic and sophisticated. This album will seduce you with its summer-evening mellowness before breaking your heart with its beautifully sensual croon.
Wonderful ballads and torch songs about love inspired by the epic, fatalistic rugged grandeur of Aznavour, Brel, Piaf, and 60’s Italian songwriters, though in a much quieter and more delicate setting.
The album is sung in Italian with some French touches and the songs are from Roma Amor’s own harvest.
The result isn't experimental or innovative, but an acoustic and intimate album for fans of well-crafted singer-songwriting.

The Maffi helicopter finally takes off again for it's next mission, this time with a Rub-A-Dub specialist
team on board who are about to infiltrate unsuspecting dancefloors worldwide. Sensi expert Kenny
Knots parachutes out first with a boom tune called "Herb From Grow" in his backpack, while special
agent Speng Bond - with the license fi toast - is keeping up the vibes in the flying command center
with "Tann Up Solid". The Ninja MC team Rub-A-Dub Market, who usually run tings and sound system
special ops code- named "Part2Style" down in Tokyo / Japan, are at the controls of the B-side with
their track "Fever".

Inside the suitcase on the backseat is the "Robotron Riddim", the dub version of Ranking Levy's
"Mad Man Syle" (from "Jahtarian Dubbers Vol. 3"). Three murdah Rub-A-Dub cuts on some rare,
early Maffi riddims plus one Dub - for your ears only! All produced and dubbed up by disrupt in the
Jahtari bunker, with a bomb of a cover from the Superhero team Ellen G. / MyLord, who also did the
masterpiece sleeve for Mr. Willamz' "Dancehall Hobby EP".
